Rhodes Island
Rhodes is one of the most beautiful towns of the Mediterranean. As an ancient coin, it has two signs, one side is a fabulous medieval town surrounded by the ancient pinion walls, and the other one is a modern town with its noisy night life, wide streets, magnificent buildings and numerous shops.
Rhodes is the fourth biggest Greek island and the biggest of the Dodecanese in the south-east of the Aegean Sea. The sunniest island in the Mediterranean (the number of sunny days per year is 332) is patronized by God of sun Helios who, according to the myth, saw the island and named it after his wife – beautiful nymph Rhodes. The rays of Helios light up the island today as well, and the nymph’s beauty is reflected in green oases, secluded bays, majestic mountains and the fairy tale of two seas – the Aegean and the Mediterranean.
There are really lots of things to see and to hear about on Rhodes. Some of the most significant world archeological objects and Christian sacred places of the island yearly win the hearts of millions of tourists. Rhodes reminds of a wise man’s thoughts: it has something to be proud of, something to be silent about, something to believe in and something to live with tomorrow.
Modern Rhodes is a cosmopolitan centre of the Dodecanese and meets the demands of the most exacting visitors. It is not accidentally that celebrities from all over the world visit the island. Rhodes will appeal to any traveler, as everyone will find their own here: a calm family rest on sunny beaches; stormy night life in bars, clubs and beach discos; active kinds of sports – windsurfing, diving, golf, tennis; romantic evenings and fascinating sunsets; luxury and chic in one of few Greek casinos; informative excursion tours and cruises through the islands.
Rhodes is an excellent rest place. Here you can enjoy beaches and rocky bays, extremely beautiful mountains and green plains with the white islets of small villages on the slopes, bright sun and caressing sea.
